Purpose: To help people understand Idle No More, the legal background, the movements purpose and current events.
This is a non-partisan, non-biased examination of the events leading to Idle No More.
My reason for starting it. I am tired of misinformation, lack of knowledge and outrageous claims made on all sides of the issue. I will provide an explanation of this issue and then let you the reader decide for yourself what you think.
No prior knowledge is required of Treaties, Indian Affairs, Parliamentary procedure or of Idle No More. We will go through this one step at a time.
Content
will vary between background information and articles written based on
interviews made with people either active in the movement or who represent a
valid opinion from an outside observer.
Background
material will include, Idle No More’s mission statement, common terminology,
bill C-45 and issues related to, organization of Idle no more, an in depth
exploration of the Indian Act and Treaties if time permits.
Interviews
may include, local Idle No More representative, local Chief or council member,
a member of the general public, a member of the university and an opinion of
either a law, political science or native studies professor.
As news
events occur they may be used in lieu of other topics.
